Switzerland Climate and Visit Timings

The Switzerland climate could be understood as moderately continental and could be considered as a plateau while the mountain is by the name of Alps which has the highest elevation except from Himalaya. The main Swiss cities are also located at the plateau which is called Mittelland (Central Plateau) and it lies at an altitude of about 400/600 meters which is (1,300/2,000 feet). The moderate climate is in the city while the mountains have colder climate because of the increasing altitude which is but natural. The blanket of fog and low clouds engulf the city and towns often and while the cities are also sunnier in this season.

The snowfalls and frosts could be found to be typical of the northern side of the Alps, which is also exposed to the cold currents from the Northern Europe. The Switzerland Climate is also about the cold winds which blows in Switzerland along with central France and is called Bise. The cold spells also bring late snowfalls in Spring, sometimes in Central Plateau during March and during summer in mountains. Also, by the second half of April, during the first warm days occur the thunderstorms also begin to erupt in the afternoon. The Atlantic weather fronts bring cool and rainy days during the summer and also in the hot periods with the weather getting high above 30 degree Celsius or 86 Degree Fahrenheit and it lasts only for few days.

Significant changing factor in climate across all regions of Switzerland:

The Switzerland Climate is all found to be with temperatures varying into different degrees or Fahrenheit but it finds the change in climate due to precipitation is distributed over the entire year. The precipitation is also distributed over the entire year and is behind the main factor behind rainfall. The May, September and also the first half of October tends to be the driest along with the April and November which are actually the wettest periods. The high-level areas is found in the Alps mountains and have average rainfall with the excess of 2000 mm per year. Some of the regions in the flat-lands of Switzerland has also 600 mm per year of precipitation. The June till August has seasonal rain which is sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms and the storms also bring the heavy hail along with snowfall in mountainous regions of Alps, also during the Summer.

The weather conditions varies slightly across the country and the lowland regions could be found in North and East have more of the influence of continental conditions with the colder winters and also the hotter summers. The South-Eastern areas of Switzerland also have longer and warmer weather which is almost Mediterranean like Summers but whatever maybe the reason if one goes towards high altitude the weather changes very quickly and dramatically and it could be all about Switzerland Climate. The season which is loved by all is the winter which see a good influx of tourists and snow cover could be seen all through the late December, through March in the valleys from November through May and also the snow fall is within the range of 1800m to 2500m and has been permanent since many years.

The clothing require in Switzerland Climate could be lightweights during Summer and waterproof covers which are also a warm jacket during winter while the sweater is necessary almost anytime as the weather remain a bit cold throughout the year.
